Irving Ramsay Wiles, The Sonata, 1889

Use these details for a slow looking exercise! This is a great example of a piece you could be looking at on Slow Art Day!

Details that sing.

So the pick stitching and button holes on SYS tailoring are made by hand… And no this won’t have any extra functional ‘effect’ on the suit, it’s just gravy… but commissioning a made to measure suit without hand made finishings, is kind of like putting commodore wheels on your Ferrari.

Don’t believe the hype?

The difference is machines made button holes are firstly ‘auto’ stitched with a large sewing machine, then the hole is safely cut.
With hand worked button holes the fabric is cut in the near finished coat & pants, a silk gimp ring is inserted around the ‘sliced fabric’ and then perfectly controlled stitching & tensioning around said ‘gimp’ ring is required.

This process requires precision hand work and can only be done by a master tailor, as there is no room for error. It takes several hours of extra hands-on labour to finish crafting the button holes & decorative stitching.

The result is beautiful… loud but shy.

See the photo above of our ‘Asola Lucida’ silk lapel button hole, it is immediately distinguishable from one that has been made from a machine. It sings.

There are things in life that are beautiful, and then there are things that are necessary… This is just beautiful.

J.R.R Tolkien, looking at flowers.

Apparently people hated to go for walks with him because he would stop and look at every tree for like 20 minutes.

I would love to go on a walk with him then!
